Woodland Retreats - Waves of Grain
The Germans have a word for the feeling we are chasing in this post: waldeinsamkeit. It means the feeling of being alone in the woods and the connectedness with nature. Did you just exhale reading that because we sure did. The hustle and bustle is picking up and there is something pure about escaping to a place where you hear only silence, save the sound of the breeze through the branches and a far-off bird declaring the day. Today on the blog we want to go full on Throeau and take a walk in the woods. You needn't do it alone, we have found some fabulous places to pack your bags and get away to; but, if escape simply needs to happen in your space, we have you covered there too.
The Bolt Farm Treehouse in South Carolina is something constructed in a dream by fairies. Traveling towards home for CDB Interiors, this dreamy one bedroom tree house near Spicewood, Texas has us wanting to shimmy up the tree and watch the leaves' shadows dance on the quilted bed. Our minds go straight away to Colorado and we can't help but mention the slightly more glamorous retreats of the Ritz Carlton in Vail and Hotel Jerome in Open. In Deer Valley, take the funicular ( a massive mountain elevator) up to the St. Regis and retreat in one of their fabulous suites overlooking the mountains of Utah. In Southwest Montana, The Ranch at Rock Creek is a lavishly decorated rustic retreat where you can stay in a log cabin or a canvas tent. Our lovely country has so much to offer in places to reconnect with nature, or in nature with loved ones.
If booking that trip is more of a headache than an awakening, but your heart longs for that gorgeous wooded vibe, we are here for you. Raw wood, grained and exposed is the fabulous way to add that rustic and woodland feel to your space. We have mentioned our love for rustic and modern farmhouse, but the woodland look calls for raw edges, natural shades (like our color crush, cocoa!), and a kind of undressing that makes for the most intimate of spaces. Many of our destinations mentioned earlier have the same decor feel: subdued, natural hues and exposed wood and beams. These waves of grain aren't just a beautiful patriotic node towards the many forests that make up our great nation, but make for your own beautiful home. Stoke the fire, pour the warm beverage and sit under a blanket with a good book-- that's what these spaces and design aesthetics make us want to do. You can hear the birds and the breeze already, can't you?
